Welcome to the blog of Matika Wilbur Photography. In this cyber space I will be sharing the intimate details of my photo world. For my premiering post, I’d like to tell you a little about my newest project “To Sing is to Pray”…
Myself and Tracy Rector are collaborating on a super dope project entitled “To Sing is To Pray” a work dedicated to our traditional Native proverb that states that all songs are prayers, and prayer is best heard through song.
To date, we’ve interviewed, photographed and taken live footage of several Musicians (stay tuned for more shots), but the most recent was K’Naan, an amazing human and musician that I related to in so many ways.
In our interview he addressed the concept of song as prayer; culture as truth and inspiration; living and recording in Bob Marley’s house and how he recovered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. K’naan recently signed with Maroon 5, Naas, Damien Marley and Lenny Kravitz, who we look forward to photographing in New York City.
After our interview, we had the privilege to film his show in Vancouver at GM Place where I experienced the beauty of K’naans’ stage presence and ability to connect with the audience. He is a true story teller, and we’re grateful we were able to meet him.
Check him out at http://knaanmusic.ning.com/, and special thanks to Steven and Sol for making the interview possible and for friendly vibrations.
